We’re Engaged!

We arrived to Crater Lake National Park and were immediately struck by the deep blue color of the lake. We’d seen it in pictures, but this is one of those places you truly must see in person. It is the deepest lake in America and one of the clearest, with visibility up to 134ft.

We were on day 3 of our 8 day road trip through Oregon and were already having the best time exploring with three of our closest friends. We started the day by driving from Bend, OR to Crater Lake where we setup camp at Mazama Campground. Once we setup camp we hit our first hike – Cleetwood Cove, a 2.2 mile roundtrip hike down to the lake shore with access to go swimming.

We found a cliff to jump off into the refreshing crystal clear water and enjoyed a few beverages and snacks on the shore before hiking out.

The next hike was a .8 mile ascent to Watchman Peak. I hadn’t prepared well for back-to-back hikes and had no spare dry clothes in the van. To avoid hiking in a wet bathing suit I threw on my puffy jacket and called it a day, really wish I would’ve packed a cuter look haha.

We made it to the fire lookout pretty quickly and were happy to find very few other hikers there. Sean spotted an ideal rock just a short scramble away from the lookout and suggested we go take a picture on it. I was thrilled that he was suggesting a cute photo opp. He even busted out the drone to do a quick fly by.

When we got to the rock I attempted to go into posing mode saying “Babe lets face the camera”, “Stand up here and put your arm around me”… the classic girl moves. Sean, un-phased, started to get romantic and I knew something was up. Next thing I know he pulled out the ring box and got down on his knee. I was in a state of shock and pure excitement.

Of course I said “Yes!”. Our friends did an awesome job capturing the moment and had champagne waiting for us as we scrambled back to the lookout.

We finished the night with a fireside salmon dinner at our little campground and shared plenty of celebratory drinks.

It was a perfect day that we will cherish forever!

Congratulations!! What a great place to get engaged! Question for you…the Mazama Campground, is this in the park? I was there in January for a quick trip from Bend, but didn’t have time to scope out camping options. I did find the drive terrifying in severe winds and GIANT rental SUV though. lol.

Hi Pam, Thanks for stopping by the blog! Mazama Campground was locates within Crater Lake National Park. There are quite a few campgrounds within the park but they fill up pretty quick.
